Unruly Popsicles

After a nice rainshower this morning, the fourth Saturday in September is turning out to be a really nice day. The long anticipated auto stem cell transplant went smoothly yesterday. And Mom is slowly overcoming the lingering effects of the intense chemo treatment from Wednesday.

Her main challenge the past 24 hours has been to keep even a single popsicle down. While Dad and I were at dinner last night, a grape popsicle got the best of her during Erin's watch. Later, during the middle of the night, she asked me for an orange one. I asked her if she was sure she really wanted one and could keep it down. She said she wanted to try. Unfortunately, 2 hours later the orange one came back up too. I couldn't help it - I said, "I told you so." :-)

As of now, though, there is no sign of the piece of toast and hot tea from this morning. And Mom was still doing well enough to get out of bed and get ready for the day. She is resting comfortably now and waiting for a plain baked potato and an afternoon of college football (both Arkansas and Texas play at 2:30 pm). Dad has been sent away with strict instructions to cram as much rest as he can into the next 24 hours. I recommended a haircut as well. :-)

Thank you so much for all of your well wishes and prayers for Mom. Your comments, emails, and cards are the perfect "sterile" encouragement.

Cheers
Mica

Paula, I read this regularly, even though I don't comment... I just want you to know I love you and am praying for a FULL remission, recovery, RE-Everything! I think of you often lately as I am studying math for the GRE. I have decided to be a PhD so I have to take the blasted test again. I wish I could pop into your office and have you prime me on all I don't recall. I would certainly obtain a perfect score! Still, I am having fun when I don't get too frustrated, and over and over again I hear the mantra:

    Math is beautiful.

    So are you my friend!

    Love,

    Susan Tyrrell

The Horns did it again even without a complete game! Zach said they encouraged everyone to leave because the lightning was coming. He was soaked by the time he got to his condo. I am so proud you have made it through another procedure...hopefully they are almost over for you. You are continually in my prayers. Love to you and the family!!

    Hi Paula and family:
I'm so glad to hear that things are so far so good! I've been thinking about you all weekend and I'm glad to get this blog! (Thanks again Mica!) And I know your two teams winning helps the recovery process too...
You'll get a kick out of this Paula, I went to the TAMU game--Republican Territory!!--and there was one lone man w/ a megaphone campaigning for Chris Bell and company. I think I was the only one who spoke to him but I thought of you when that happened!

    Keep the good news coming!
    Love, Carrie

I never can remember: what number is orange and which is purple? Recall I'm the crazy one that thinks of numbers being gender base but never in color. Just tell them you are spilling out those lovely numbers and they need to catch the spirit. May the Holy Spirit annoint you with healing. Mount up on the wings of the eagle, rest in the Lord's arms so you may fight the good fight and finish the race.
How many times did you tell Mica "I told you" compared with the times she has told you?

    Dearest Paula,
Hope you are feeling better each day, and I'm thrilled that the procedure went smoothly! The popsicle scenario is one that most parents have encountered, but it's certainly different to hear the story in the reverse! I'm sending my love and prayers as always. Hope to see you soon-
    Hugs,
    Betsy

    Dear Paula,
We are all praying those stem cells go in fighting! We check in and read how you are doing but I haven't posted in a while.

Clint is leaving for Iraq on Saturday and has 15 Apache helicopters and 31 men under his command. My sweet baby boy is leading men in war! I still have trouble getting my head around that. We will be leaving for Ft. Hood on Thursday to visit before he leaves.

There are all different types of war and you are certainly waging your own. Know that you have a huge squadron supporting and cheering for you on this battle front!

Our prayers are with each of you,
    Jeanni, Chip, Colt, & Glenna

Paula, I just saw this quote and had to pass it on to you. The late William Sloan Coffin said,
"I love the recklessness of faith. First, you leap, and then you grow wings." Hope you are having a good day and will be back in East Texas enjoying this autumn weather soon.

What a wonderful testimony this blog is. I do relate to the pop story-We had to prove Grace would eat one before they would let her out of Titus hospital after day surgery on her adnoids.
We love you Paula and we are praying for you. I've had the privilege to be in a number of churches in MP this past month and have seen your name on prayer lists. So glad your precious daughters are there to take care of you!
Love, Christine Mike and Grace O'Neil

I am so sorry about those unruly popsicles. Tea and toast is much better!!! Hope you have advanced to much more nutritious food by now. Praying that the transplant result is complete remission and this is soon far behind you!!
