Neutropenic

Well, we can report that things can only go up from here. It is Day 6 after the transplant and Mom's white blood cell count has fallen to 134 and she has been labeled "neutropenic" (as expected). The nurses tell us that anything below 500 is considered neutropenic and that a normal person usually has about a 10,000 white blood cell count. They gave her a blood transfusion yesterday to help her get her counts back up to a normal range.

Mom is doing everything Dr. Bhushan has recommended in order to checkout of Hotel Medical City on-time ... including walking the floor and sitting in the recliner as often as possible rather than just spending the whole day in bed. Given the expected complications from the transplant, this is no small thing and we are really proud of her.

Dad has kept things going this week as well. Each day he requests a printed copy of Mom's lab results and tapes them sequentially across the wall facing Mom's bed. Then if a nurse has a question about Mom's status or progress, he can point to a report and a particular highlighted number and give them the full history. :-)

Thank you for prayers this week. We know they make a difference.

Cheers
Mica

Keep up the good work and know we are all praying for your return to full health. If there is ever anything I can do let me know. If anyone can beat this you can. You are the strongest person I know and the sweetest.

Hi there! If anything can be a big boost to your continued improvement, John taping all those lab report numerical values up on the wall for you to look at has got to be the trick! You must be viewing a kaleidoscope of color on your wall. Here is some additional math news to cheer you. Guess who all made A's on their Dif Eq exam this past week? That's right...all your NTCC transfer students. From what I understand, the grades were a reverse bell curve with our 4 NTCC students coming out on the top end. Now, get those neutrophil numbers up where they need to be so you can get back in the classroom and GET TO WORK! There are students that need you.
You know I love ya lots! Keep the faith.

Thank you Mica for keeping us posted on Paula's "neutropenic statis" and those "unruly popsicles".

Paula, I wish we all had buttons like computers, where all we had to do is push a button and restart or reboot our systems back to health.

Keep up with the walking and know with each new step it will get easier. Keep the faith and know everyone loves you and wants you back here with us.

    Hang in there! :) :) :) :) OOOOOO

many smiles and hugs to you.

Well, Paula, it's the first Monday of October, and I'm thinking this is normally the time we begin celebrating 'TrigFest!' Of course, with temperatures still in the 90s it's getting difficult to believe it's Fall. I miss you, and have lots and lots to talk to you about, so I'm praying that those counts bounce back quickly, and that you get to come home soon. Love you-
    Betsy
