13 million
After two rounds of chemo and two full days of harvesting, we have been told that Mom has 13 million stem cells waiting to be used for her Transplant Lite. That will be enough for 2 transplants, possibly 3. Yeah!
The next important date is Tuesday, September 19 when she will check back into Medical City and begin the transplant process. First, she will be given a short yet intense chemo treatment to take out her current bone marrow. Then she will receive a transplant of a portion of the 13 million "clean" stem cells. About 10 days later we hope for her to be feeling fine and strong enough to re-enter daily life. There is only a slight chance of complications from an autologous transplant, so we hope and pray that complete remission for Mom is right around the corner!
Mom has spent two weeks straight away from home, so she and Dad and Grandy have headed back to MP to soak in as much normal life as they can before returning next week. The cooler September temps paired with the glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel have been just enough to keep Mom going the last few days.
Thank you for your prayers and encouraging words to Mom. We value them very very much.
Cheers
Mica
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength,
They will soar on wings like eagles,
They will run and not grow weary,
They will walk and not be faint.

Hey Paula,
13 million sounds like a good number to me. 13 million prayers and wishes that all those stem cells will bring you to a complete and thorough recovery. 13 million reasons why we need you back into our lives (and out of the hospital) as soon as possible. 13 million ways that you are wonderful and that so many people care about you and love you for the wonderful person you are.
Betty and I are sending 13 million hugs, thoughts, and prayers your way. You hang in there...we just know that it's going to be ok.
Love to you (and your family),
Ron and Betty

Paula and Family,
I have been thinking of all of you for over a week and wondering what is going on in your life. Just this morning I remembered the website to check on you!
I was so excited to read that you are doing great from all that you have had to endure for the last few weeks! Paula, with your wonderful attitude and faith, I know you will be back at work and busy soon! May you and your family have a blessed week before going back for the final round. Always remember that you have friends that love you and respect your courage. May God spend his peace to you and your family.
Your friend and coworker,
Wanda Henry

Dearest Paula,
I'm thinking of you and praying for you today, the 19th. We miss you so very much here at NTCC. There's even been talk of shutting the place down until you return (your absence is why enrollment has been down, you know.) Things just don't run as smoothly when Paula Wilhite isn't here. So hurry up and get well! We need you.
Love always, Leah Reagan, Your friend and colleague

Dearest Paula,
I started off my workday this morning with a silent prayer for you, your family, and your medical team. 13 is a terrific number, but I'm sure 19 will be significant to us as well (now what color are ones and nines again?), as it is the number of the day those stem cells begin to 'do their thing' to allow you to come back to us. And when you return, we will celebrate our birthdays and reflect on how the events of this year have made us much more appreciative of what we've been blessed with. And I'll get another chance to tell you that you're the best, and how grateful I am to have you as a teacher, mentor, and friend.
Hugs,
Betsy
