Hotel Medical City

So Mom is completing her fourth day here at Hotel Medical City. She has taken her last dose of steroids and shortly will begin her last 24 hours of chemotherapy for this visit. Praise God! Now we are counting the hours until she can begin to have a higher output than input. While on chemotherapy, she receives 1 liter of fluid every four hours to help ensure that her kidneys remain functional. Unfortunately, she is not keeping up with all the fluid so she is enduring quite a bit of swelling which is less than fun. We know she will soon catch up though as soon as she can hit the streets walking again.

You may wonder why the hospital may be called Hotel Medical City. Well, she has quite the set-up with not just a bed and bathroom but also a small sitting area for Dad and her to work. Plus, she gets to order food from an elaborate menu so needless to say it is a couple of steps above typical hospital cuisine. All these amenities serve to make their stay a little easier, but as I am sure you are aware, in the end it is still a hospital. I doubt it would be anyone's desired vacation destination.

We anticipate (I use this word carefully) that Mom's discharge will occur Sunday morning. However, if there is one thing that God is teaching us in all of this, it is patience and flexibility. It seems that we rarely know what the plan actually will be. Nonetheless, we are hanging tight and doing our best to provide Mom some amusement to pass the time. What Mom really wants more than anything is to just go teach a class. We know she will soon enough though.

Have a great weekend,
Erin

Thanks for posting the update. I keep her in my prayers, and as I approach the coming semester I draw on her stories from class for courage. She is a strong and lovely lady!! I only hope to be at least half the woman she is!

Yard Report: I walked by yesterday evening, and it's looking good, lush and green. I wish ours looked half as good.
I know you'll be glad to get out of Hotel Medical City, even with the amenities. I hope that you are still able to enjoy that elaborate menu.
    Our prayers continue, Sunshine.
    Love, Mary Gail
