August Anticipations

Mom spent Monday and Tuesday going through a slew of tests in preparation for the Transplant Lite and we received the topline results today. The good news is that Mom is doing well enough to endure the transplant in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, Dr. Bhushan feels he has observed that Mom's counts have not continued to decrease as they did back in March. But they have not increased much either. Since our goal is to drive them down as much as possible right before the transplant, Dr. Bhushan has drawn out a plan for Mom to undergo a 4-day in-patient chemotherapy treatment. Once that is complete, the next couple of weeks will focus on building her blood cell count back up and harvesting the best stem cells for the transplant.

We are disappointed that the abbreviated Thalidomide dosage this summer has not been more effective, but are very optimistic that this upcoming chemo will be extremely effective.

We will share more when we know more, but in the meantime, we anticipate more progress in August. :-)

Cheers
Mica

"My soul, praise the Lord, and all that is within me, praise His holy name.
My soul, praise the Lord, and do not forget all His benefits.
He forgives all your sin;
He heals all your diseases.
He redeems your life from the pit;
He crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
He satisfies you with goodness; your youth is renewed like the eagle."

    Hey Paula and Family,

    Thanks for the updates. Apparently, I'm not as computer literate as I thought--my last two posts didn't survive! I'm thinking of you often, Paula, and pray that your positive spirit and God's infinite grace will see you through these two weeks of chemo.
    Love,
    Glenda Ballard

    Mrs. Wilhite,

    I just wanted to let you know that my family is praying for you and it's such a joy to read Mica's updates on your blog. I now live in Maryland (just north of D.C.) and am expecting our 5th child. We have 8 yr. old Nate, 6 yr old Lela, 4 yr. old Justin, 17 month old Caleb and are expecting a baby girl in late November). When I think of you, I see a big smile and always hear a cheerful voice. It was a true joy to be your student at NTCC.

    Praying for you,
    Mindy Mayhew (Horn)

    We are constantly praying that God will continue to provide you strength through these next few weeks of intense medication. There are so many people in Hooks who ask about you and keep you on their prayer lists. Grandy is geared up and ready to be there with you.

    Lots of Love,
    Kelly, Chris & Kinsley

    Hi, Paula. I'm sending up those prayers for you even more intensely this week. I know that you are both glad that something is happening and anxious that something is happening. Hang in there, and I'll see you on the streets soon. (With my slow,aging dog, we'll be able to walk slowly together when you feel like it.)
    Love, Mary Gail
