Summer Days

Well, it seems we are well into the dog days of summer even though it is only June. In an effort to stay cool and pass the time between appointments with Dr. Bhushan, we often take refuge at the local shopping metropolis that is called North Park. :-)

Yesterday Mom and Dad met with Dr. Bhushan to learn how well the lower-dose Thalomid was working for her. Turns out it is the drug her particular myeloma cells are defenseless against - one key metric had decreased from 890 to 475. We were thrilled to hear we are back making progress defeating her cancer. Mom and Dad were also told that this treatment plan would continue through the summer so that she would be in prime condition for the "Transplant Lite" - which is tentatively scheduled for August.

Dr. Bhushan shared his predictions for how myeloma research would progress in the next 5-10 years. Given the pace of progress in the past decade, it is reasonable to expect that Paula's Progress will be extended at a comparable clip as well. So we have good reason to avoid unreasonable risks with the transplants at this time. As you can imagine, this was all very encouraging news to hear.

We hope you are enjoying the Summer of '06 and keeping cool. For those of you who continue to faithfully share your love and encouragment with Mom and Dad each week, we are awed by your generosity of spirit. Thank you.

All the best
Mica

    Dear Wilhites -

I suppose that being a "patient" patient (!) is sometimes very difficult, but, oh, so much for the best. Paula and I have had this discussion a few times in the past month. My love and prayers are with you all...

I always knew you were "super math woman" but now you have graduated to super Woman! No worries, just be happy. You are one lucky and loved woman, with that kind of back-up, along with a great doc, super-duper meds, and the Guy upstairs, you're journey will be "Coming soon in a theatre near us!" An inspirational tale that will serve to offer encouragement to the masses for years to come. Keep up the good work! JJ

Paula, just wanted you to know that you are always in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you are still getting to enjoy that early morning walk; time when we can sing and talk to our Father. I miss seeing you and Charles misses being with John and "the Chief". Philippians 4:19

Just leave it in the Lord's Arms and He will carry our burdens, pains, and give the answer that is so needed. Glad you are doing better. Remember the poem "Footprints", He will carry us when we are not able to walk thru the trouble waters. Hope your family has a nice Father's Day and a blast on the Fourth.
What friends we make thru AMATYC and TexMATYC, but even more we are sisters in Christ.
    Love,
    Natile
