Achiever
All of us who know Mom know that she is tenacious about completing tasks - even to the point of perfection. Because of a survey I pressed Mom into taking, we now have a word to describe this personality trait of hers. It is called Achiever. "People strong in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being productive." This is no doubt why she considers the faculty of NTCC to be her extended family. :-)
In the past month, Dr. Bhushan pointed out to Mom that her hemoglobin count was too low - somewhere around 9 instead of 13 or 14. Yesterday it was 13.7. Task completed.
During her appointment last week, the nurse pointed out that her blood pressure was creeping up. So, Mom resumed her walks around the neighborhood. (She promises us that she only strolls!) And yesterday her blood pressure was heading back to normal. Task completed.
I guess if there was not something about Mom to be concerned about, Dr. Bhushan wouldn't have a reason to see her every month. Yesterday he pointed out to Mom that her heart rate was in the low to mid-40s. When Mom asked if there was something she could work on to raise it to normal levels, Dr. Bhushan said there really wasn't. He assured her that it is a complication of one of the most important medications she is taking. However, somehow I know that Mom has already been contemplating a way to complete this task. :-)
There wasn't time for us to have dinner last night because everyone was working. Mom and Dad had to head back to Mt. Pleasant, but Mom and I did get to visit while watching the ending of The Bachelor. In general, we were confident that Travis would pick Sara even though we both had thoughts about the possibility of him choosing Moana at the very end. :-)
Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement. Mom reads and re-reads all of your comments. Please never underestimate what your kind words do for us each day.
Cheers
Mica

Well I guess those personality surveys DO tell the truth!! I have enjoyed seeing your smiling face on campus this past couple of weeks, and you are looking better and better! And I totally understand the need to exercise, being an exercise nut like you are I know that if I were in your shoes I'd find a way to keep "strolling" :-) Keep the good reports coming!!
Love, Carrie

How wonderful it must make you feel, Paula, to have such an adoring daughter to continue the blog, keeping us all up to date. You must be the mother we all wished for!
Moana? Her name is really Moan-ah?
Hugs and Kisses,

Maybe it's pronounced Mo-ahna! Paula, I'm so glad you're keeping the faith. Achiever is a good personality tag for you - how many times have we talked about your pursuit of education AFTER you started a family?? How much more courage and determination it takes to fight this illness with all you've got. We are all still here, supporting you, loving you, lifting you up with the goal of achieving one thing - bringing you back to good health. Miss you much - hugs and kisses from me, too!

Hi,Paula. I've been missing you on the streets of the neighborhood. Now that I know you are back out, I'll keep an eye open for you. (I've been doing that anyway, ready to see you back out with us walkers.) Aren't the flowers beautiful? Have you noticed how the birds are singing again?
Keep working hard on these medical issues, and we'll keep praying hard for you.
Love, Mary Gail

You are such an inspiration Dr. Wilhite. You made a lasting impression in the classroom as you taught me to think and reason. I spent many hours frustrated with the challenges of Mathematics but in the end walked away with a comfort in my ability to think through a problem. I hear your words come out of my mouth each day as I encourage 8th graders to do the same. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for sharing your strengths with us.
I enjoyed reading your daughters postings. Your determination shines in everything you do. But then again, we expect nothing less!

I have been keeping up with Paula's progress for the past several weeks. It is really uplifting to see how caring her family and friends are and what a great outlook Paula seems to have.
I am not sure I have seen so much love and care expressed as I have for the Wilhite family.

Hello my dearest friend,
You are the greatest inspiration to all of us. Your unfailing spirit and your will to conquer the beast will help see you through. Of course, we know the Higher Power comes first and will bless you, your family, and your friends.
Love you always,
Mel
